Valley of the Moon Pinot Noir

The last lunar eclipse of 2010 occurred early this morning. I had the misfortune of sleeping through my alarm set to go off at 3:15. Many others set their alarms and awoke to a cloudy sky. Much to their disappointment the moon was no where to be found.

All of the hype built up around the eclipse and the winter solstice influenced my wine selection for the evening. I immediately thought of Valley of the Moon’s 2008 Pinot Noir and decided to give it a try. The bottle is impressive, with no paper label an image of an eclipsed moon is painted on the front. This wine is nothing short of luscious. Its intense bright red fruit flavors are complemented by vanilla, clove and toasty oak. This Pinot Noir has round, firm tannins and a long, rich finish.
