Wine Review: 2009 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe

The wines from G.D. Vajra are a true testament to Barolo's reputation for being the source of many great Italian wines. The 2009 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe is a blend of Nebbiolo grapes from three different vineyards at three different altitudes. Every morning the sun rises from one vineyard to another creating a symphony for the senses just like the wine produced from these blocks of land. 2009 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe is a bold, full-bodied wine with exotic aromas and rich, savory flavors. It is a wonderful match for hearty meals and can be paired with heavy pasta, rich risotto, and meat dishes.

"It's great to see Vajra finally getting some of the recognition they have long deserved. Vajra's 2009 Barolo Albe wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and richness. Deeply spiced notes lead to plum, black cherry, menthol, tar and licorice in a resonant, beautifully expressive Barolo loaded with near-term appeal. The 2009 is rich and incredibly inviting from the very first taste. I can't think of too many Barolos in this price range that deliver so much quality and pure pleasure. Once again, Vajra has hit a home run with the Albe." (92 Points - Antonio Galloni)
