How often do you come across a highly rated wine from an iconic producer
for under $20? Not often! I'll let you in on a little secret -- we
received 10 cases of a mind-blowing, 94 Point Shiraz last week. We first
introduced this wine as a bonus bottle at last week's "Thursday Night
Six" wine tasting with Mitch & Codey. It was a huge success. We
only have 5 cases left and at $16.99 it is an incredible value that
won't last long. 2011 M. Chapoutier Tournon "Mathilda" Shiraz is an
exceptional Australian Shiraz produced by M. Chapoutier, an award
winning negociant first established in France. The wine is
entirely aged in concrete or stainless steel tanks and it is bottled 12
months later. The wine's color is brilliant, dark ruby. On the nose deep
black fruits and pepper aromas. The palate supple and greedy with silky
and elegant fine tannins. This wine will have you singing "Que Shiraz,
Shiraz. What ever will be, will be 2011 M. Chapoutier Tournon Mathilda!"
As if one amazing wine isn't enough, we have another bottle to keep your palate happy. 2012 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage is an awe-inspiring, 92 Point Crozes-Hermitage from one of the most in-demand producers in Northern Rhone. After tasting this exuberant Crozes-Hermitage our Wine Director, Codey, went to our distributor and purchased our 5 case allotment. At $35.99, 2012 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage is an absolute steal for Northern Rhone enthusiasts. It is a remarkable wine with a pedigree to match. "Inky ruby. Pungent, deeply scented aromas of black raspberry, cassis, black pepper and violet. Fruity, supple and sweet, with energetic red and dark berry flavors and a suggestion of candied licorice. Finishes with gentle grip and spicy thrust, the violet note echoing." ~(92 Points, Stephen Tanzer's IWC)
Both 2011 Domaine Tournon Mathila and 2012 Alain Graillot Croze-Hermitage are limited offerings. We are keeping them off our racks and in our cellar for serious fans of Shiraz and Syrah.
