Good Morning Burg Lovers! Codey here...
I'm always hunting for good Red Burgundy in everyday price ranges.
It's not hard to find cheap and cheerful quaffing Burg in the $20 range.
Just about every Burgundy merchant makes one. And they are what they
should be: light, simple, fresh, serviceable Red Burgundy. It's hardly
ever though that we find deliciously rich, well-built, soulful Burgundy
in the same price range. That's where Dampt comes in clutch:
2012 Vignoble Dampt Bourgogne Epineuil "Les Beaumonts"
This gem comes to us from a single vineyard terroir "Les Beaumonts", one of the finest sites in all of Epineuil.
Vignoble Dampt is a
3-brother operation. Eric, Emmanuel and Hervé tend a choice collection
of vines, including Grand Cru and Premier Cru Vineyards in the heart of
Chablis. Dampt is first and foremost a fine Chablis producer, however,
over the years this trio has collected fine vineyard sites in just about
every nook and cranny of Northern Burgundy.
This particular territory, Epineuil, is nestled in the Yonne
Department, where it benefits from sacred soils: limestone-rich
Kimmeridgian marl.
Kimmeridgian=Tiny fossilized oyster shells.
Kimmeridgian=Tiny fossilized oyster shells.
This neighborhood generally offers exceptional values for
fine Pinot Noir, however, in solar vintages like 2012, this appellation
truly sings. And "Les Beaumont" is just killin' it right now.
Quintessential Red Burgundy+Killer price=Autumnal Bliss. (Simple math)
If you want some, please e-mail me and let me know how many bottles/cases, and which
store you would prefer to pick them up in. Orders will be filled next

Notes: Layered, robust, and woodsy. Aromas of crunchy red fruits, ripe
red cherry, cranberry bog, leather, earth, antique books. On the
palate, creamy red cherry. A certain sumptuousness usually reserved for
Burgundy twice the price. No new oak, just natural yeast. Elegance meets
richness. A lengthy finish resonating with cherry cola, black truffle,
and palm leaf. Curious. And delicious. Extremely satisfying. Drink it
now, but don't be afraid to hold a few bottles for 5-8 years. It's got
the stuffing.
