A tasting to benefit Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County

Happy Summer! We're celebrating the change of season with a special tasting to benefit Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County. Please join Ancona's Wines of Wilton on Saturday, June 21, from 3-6pm to support this wonderful organization. Proceeds from the sale of tasting wines will be donated to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County. Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County has served the community for more than 100 years and has one of the oldest hospice programs in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Founded in 1912, this non-profit agency provides professional nursing and support services, senior care management, physical rehabilitation, health education, community wellness programs and compassionate hospice care for adults and children in the heart of Fairfield County.

Tasting highlights for this Saturday's event include:

2013 Pikes Riesling "Hills & Valleys" is clean, precise, and full of green apple and lemon/lime citrus flavors that have beautiful persistency coupled with subtle hints of mineral and wet slate. This is a fantastic, mouth-watering, bargain riesling at a mere 11.5% alcohol.
2012 Domaine Du Salvard Vin de Pays du Val de Loire Pinot Noir "Unique" is a delicious Pinot Noir that is medium-bodied, cherry-driven, earthy, and fresh. We often hear from both customers and distributors that it is difficult to find really good Pinot Noir under $20 a bottle. This wine is the answer. Simply everything I'd hope for in a Pinot. A spectacular little value.
2012 "Sentinelle" cuvee is the more precocious of the two reds produced at Massiac.  The tannins are more supple and the fruit a touch "sweeter", more forward and less rustic than its companion. The wine is bottled within a year of the harvest.  The blend is usually two-thirds Syrah and one-third Carignan.

Wine Review: 2010 Domaine Vindemio Imagine

Love at first sip! For under $25 this is one of the best values I have seen all year. An alluring blend of Syrah and Grenache, 2010 Domaine Vindemio Imagine is full-flavored and rich. It has a luscious, full body with an impressive display of fresh, ripe fruit. Its sweet, succulent fruit will complement the savory dishes, I paired it with pork tenderloin.

This Syrah has layers of flavor with a generous amount of ripe red fruit. It is smooth and luscious with hints of toasty oak and smoke. A great wine for any meal, its flavors complement a wide range of dishes.

Wine Review: 2009 DMZ Syrah

The 2009 DMZ Syrah is a masculine, full-bodied wine from South Africa. It has intense aromas and great concentration. Juicy red berries on the palate with a good amount of spice and cracked pepper on the finish. A great wine to pair with hearty meals or by itself on a chilly evening.

Wine Review: 2008 Bodega Carchelo "A"

Shake off the last bit of winter with a bottle of the 2008 Bodegas Carchelo “A”. It is a smooth blend of Syrah and Tempranillo with earthy tones on the nose. Aromas of dark red fruit are complemented by mocha and cracked pepper. Flavors of juicy dark berries present themselves on the palate alongside hints of vanilla and spice. This wine is well structured with soft tannins and light acidity. It is an exceptional value!

2008 Bodega Carchelo "A" is on sale for $17.99 (regularly $19.99/bottle)
