Tropical Storm Irene

In the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, we find residents pulling together to help each other to the best of their ability. Irene caused substantial damage and resulted in one of the worst power outages in Connecticut's history. With a significant portion of the surrounding towns without power, residents are doing the best they can to stay calm and collected.

Local businesses are stepping up to offer their support as well. Many have taken to Facebook and Twitter to keep residents up to date with the latest information. Talk of the Town, a blog dedicated to the latest happenings in Ridgefield, has done an outstanding job keeping residents informed. Their Facebook page has become an outlet for locals to share useful tips ranging from what roads have been cleared to where hot coffee can be found.

A collection of local businesses including Ancona's Market and Keough's Hardware are offering potable water to residents. At Ancona's Wines & Liquors, we have set up electrical power strips for locals to charge their cell phones, tablets and laptops. Ancona's Market brought their kitchen outdoors, serving up hearty meals to those who are unable to prepare their own. The Market is also handing out free batteries while supplies last. This evening, Ridgefield's very own Julia Lewis will preform live at Ancona's Market at 5:30.

Despite the destruction of this catastrophic event, Tropical Storm Irene has ignited a spark within all of us. An overwhelming sense of community can be found amongst all of the damage and devastation.

Ancona's Wines & Liquors is proud to be a part of this very hospitable community!
