Wine Pairings

It's no secret Ancona's staff is passionate about wine, beer, and spirits. So it should come as no surprise that we pair bottles with our favorite music, books, and movies. That's right, wine and beer pairings are not limited to what's on your plate! Just as one selects the perfect dish to pair alongside a glass of Cabernet or IPA, care must be taken when pairing bottles with what's in your library, on your turntable, or waiting in your Netflix cue. On your next adventure to Ancona's, pick up a few favorite bottles and think about what to pair them with. The process can be a challenge, but the end result is very satisfying and a lot of fun. Here are a few pairings I've made over the past couple of weeks:

2008 Bodegas Olarra Rioja Cerro Anon Reserva & Casablanca: What a fool I was to fall for a wine like you! This Rioja's menacing red cherry and exotic spice driven profile oozes with drama and mirrors the stylistic qualities of film noir. A bottle of Veuve may have been a more appropriate choice for Casablanca, but the this Tempranillo is as irresistible as Humphrey Bogart. Here's looking at you, kid.

2013 Donnhoff Riesling & Bruce Springsteen: There is no better way to celebrate the end of Summer than with a bottle of Donhoff Riesling and live recordings of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The magnificently pure flavors found within the confines of this bottle are a perfect match for the indelible tracks on these records. Both leave me with wistful and reminiscent feelings of Summers gone by.

2012 A. et P. de Villaine Aligote Bouzeron & The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde: Crafted by one of the greatest winemakers to ever live, this attractive white shows lively flavors matched by an urbane and sophisticated minerality. This Aligote is Prince Charming-esque in style, with slight debaucherous undertones -- a refined criminal of sorts, wooing your palate and leaving your heart aching for more.
