Beer 365 #120 Brooklyn Brown Ale

Beer 365 #120, originally uploaded by mitchancona.

Beer 365- #120 Brooklyn Brown Ale
Pours a light clear brown with lacking off white head. The nose is mild and not all that appealing, bready, a little malt, perhaps a little brown sugar as well. The mouth is medium bodied and relatively light in carbonation. The flavor is not overly complex, roasted malt, not much else. If you search hard enough you might find some caramel and perhaps a slight nuttiness. A mild hops presence is noticeable near the finish. (5.5% ABV)

Beer 365 #89 Gritty's Best Brown Ale

Beer 365- #89 Gritty's Best Brown Ale
Pours a redish-brown with thick (but quickly disappearing) head. Toasty malt nose with hints of brown sugar, sour dough bread? Light bodied with lacking effervescence. The flavors match the nose, slight sweet malt, a tart sourness that hits the back of our tongue. Not my favorite brown. (4.1% ABV)

Beer 365- #86 Newcastle Brown Ale
Pours a light clear brown with a slight redish hue, thin quickly fading tan head. Malty, a little bread like, nutty nose. Very light and somewhat still in the mouth. Sweet malty flavors, a touch of sourness? nutty notes. Nice lingering finish. Not great but it is the "one and Only" (4.7% ABV)

Beer 365- #82 Lagunitas Lumpy Gravy
Pours a coco brown with hints of auburn, thin tan head that disappears quickly. Very rich, decadent, warming nose with hints of candied fruit. Pretty dense mouth, very rich. Very sweet and sticky with loads of caramel, brown sugar and spice flavors, bits of hops poke through in the finish. Not hot, but you sense the alcohol is there. (7.2% ABV)

Beer 365 #77 Mc Chouffe Brown Ale

Beer 365 #77, originally uploaded by mitchancona.

Beer 365- Mc Chouffe Brown Ale
Pours a rusty cloudy brown with lacking head. Slightly sour nose of malt and alcohol. Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Some what disjointed flavor wise. Sweet malt, dry bitterness, not really working together. Slight heat in the finish. I wish I liked this more. (8% ABV)

Beer 365 #63 Trappistes Rochefort #6

Beer 365- #63 Trappistes Rochefort #6
Pours a very active cloudy brown with quickly receding off white head. Very sweet candied nose (tootsie roll, brown sugar) with hints of citrus. Lighter in the mouth than what I would expect from the nose. Very complex flavors that seem somewhat disjointed. Citrus mixed with a yeasty breadiness coated in sweet malt. The finish is dry and lingering. I'm not blown away, the ribs were good though. (7.5%ABV)

Beer 365- #51 Boulder 30th Anniversary Flashback Ale

Beer 365- #51, originally uploaded by mitchancona.

Beer 365- #51 Boulder 30th Anniversary Flashback Ale
Pours a rich clear brown color with a tan long lasting head. Great balance on the nose between the citrusy hops and the nutty malts. Light to medium in body. First up on the palate is the roasted malt flavors, joined quickly by the non-aggressive hops which linger on the tongue for a while. This is a nice representation of what the mutant, IBA should taste like. (6.8% ABV)

Beer 365 28/365 Dogfish Head IBA

Beer 365 28/365, originally uploaded by mitchancona.

Beer 365- #28 Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale

I've had this many times before. Seem a bit different this time around, more brown less Indian ale. Dark brown in the glass, think cola. Light herbaceous nose, think Jager. Dense creaminess in the mouth but medium bodied, nice active spritz on the tongue. Dark malt flavors, very roasted, hints of coffee, mocha. Short finish but lingering aftertaste. Much more porter-esque than what I remember, still very good. (7.2% ABV)

Beer 365- Beer #27 Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale

I first enjoyed this beer while camping in NH. Went there to get a tattoo, ah youth. Great big brown, dense and dark in color but light a nimble in the mouth. Rich maltiness that is semi sweet, a roundness that is enjoyable. Long lingering finish. I think I'll skip the tattoo this time. (5.7% ABV)

Beer 365- Beer #17 Mc Chouffe Brown Ale

Normally wonderful, I fear that this bottle was slightly off. Normally the beer should be quite reactive when poured into a glass. I had to force a head to appear with this one. The flavors were all there, rich sweet raisins and dates smothered in spice, mostly hidden hops peak out near the yeasty finish. I look forward to trying this again to see if the bottle was indeed slightly off. (8.0% ABV)
