Fall Wines: Riesling Review

Riesling is often overlooked as the answer to the age old question “What should I drink tonight?” Riesling is a fun, versatile grape varietal that can range in style from dry to sweet. They can be light and fresh or rich and full-bodied. Most showcase lively acidity, making Riesling a vivacious alternative to your every day white. If there were a 'Wine Olympics' Riesling would win a Gold Medal for food-friendlyness, you can pair it with just about anything. A Riesling worth noting is the 2008 Eugen Wehrheim Niersteiner Oelberg Riesling Kabinett. I enjoyed this smooth, off-dry Riesling and its tart, prominent green apple and peach flavors. Finishing with a nice, crisp acidity this Riesling has loads of food-pairing potential, making it the perfect white to accompany almost any meal. ~Jackie
