Wine Review: 2010 Bodegas Olivares Jumilla Dulce Monastrell

2010 Bodegas Olivares Jumilla Dulce Monastrell is a bloody good wine for Halloween! It comes from the Olivares family estate of un-grafted, old vines where the Monastrell grapes are left to hang on the vine longer so they can begin to raisinate. This concentrates the fruit into a rich style of dessert wine that is not fortified, instead, 2010 Bodegas Olivares Jumilla Dulce Monastrell is fresh and aromatic with aromas of dark berries and figs complemented by spectacular ripe, lush flavors that are complex and inviting. A great value for what is in the bottle.

92 Points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Heady aromas of cassis, blueberry preserves, violet and lavender are expansive and strikingly precise. Dark berry liqueur flavors show intense sweetness but maintain freshness thanks to gentle minerality and tangy acidity. Lush but lively, finishing with sweet boysenberry and blueberry notes and excellent length."~(I.W.C.)
